Police: Man shot at Alamosa protest, suspect in custody

ALAMOSA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Alamosa Police say a suspect is in custody after a man was shot Thursday evening. Police believe the victim was driving through a protest demonstration downtown when he was shot.

A spokesman with Alamosa Police tells KRDO that officers were dispatched for a reported shooting just before 6 p.m. at Main Street and State Avenue.

At the scene, officers found a 49-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound. He was taken first to a local hospital but then transported to Memorial for further treatment. We're still waiting to hear more about his condition.

Police tell us the victim was shot through his car window by a man on the sidewalk.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old James Marshall of Alamosa, was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. Marshall is now facing a slew of charges:

• Second-degree attempted murder
• First Degree Assault
• Reckless Endangerment
• Felony
• Menacing
• Criminal Mischief
• Illegal Discharge of a Firearm
• Prohibited
• Use of Weapons

The motive for the shooting isn't clear, police say. The investigation is ongoing.
