FREMONT COUNTY, Colo (KRDO) -- One man narrowly missed sleeping with the fishes after he dozed off at the wheel Saturday.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the driver of this SUV was going along Highway 50 near Cotopaxi when he fell asleep. His car went straight into the Arkansas River, landing on its wheels. The driver was soon rescued by CPW river rangers with the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area. The car, meanwhile, was reeled in by a tow truck.

Wildlife officials say the man is lucky to have escaped unharmed. The fish, too, are safe. Because the car landed upright, no fluids leaked into the water.
