Gov. Polis to temporarily allow food trucks at Colorado rest areas in support of truckers
DENVER -- Gov. Jared Polis issued an executive order Saturday allowing food trucks to operate at rest areas in Colorado. The order is meant to support truckers as they move through the state during a time when fewer restaurants are open.
"Commercial truck drivers play a critical role in the supply chain and in the COVID-19 emergency response. Truckers transport essential supplies including equipment, medicine, food, and personal protective equipment across our State and the country," the order reads. "Normal enforcement of restrictions pertaining to commercial activities at highway rest and refueling areas stand in the way of accessible, affordable, fresh food options for truck drivers operating in Colorado."
The order temporarily suspends an existing statute that bans commercial food trucks from using properties connected to freeways and highways.
The order is set to expire June 2.
