Denver public health order requiring face masks at essential businesses to go into effect May 6
DENVER (KRDO) -- A public health order issued by the City of Denver will require people to wear face coverings in public and at essential businesses, according to our partners at 9News. That order goes into effect May 6 and will last until further notice. Denver's stay-at-home order is currently set to expire May 8.
Gov. Jared Polis hasn't made this a statewide public health order, but he is recommending people use them to slow the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, the cities of Boulder and Wheat Ridge have issued similar mask mandates, reports 9News.
The order says people should wear masks when they are inside, or waiting in line to enter, any retail or commercial business; any facility that services "Critical Government Functions"; when they're receiving health services; and when they're using public transportation, including taxis and ride-share services.
Mask use is outlined by the public health order:
- A Face Covering may be factory-made, or may be handmade and improvised from ordinary household materials.
- The Face Covering should fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face, include multiple layers of fabric, allow for breathing without restriction, and be able to be laundered and machine-dried without damage or change to shape.
- Face Coverings need to cover the nose and mouth at all times and should remain in place until taken off safely.
- If a worker’s Face Covering moves during work, it needs to be replaced with one that does not need to be frequently adjusted to reduce touching of the face.
- Face Coverings should be replaced when it becomes dirty, wet, and/or difficult to breathe through.
People do not have to wear a mask if it "would inhibit the individual's health."
