Colorado Springs car wash gives free washes to essential workers this weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Just about everyone is looking for ways to thank our essential workers during this pandemic. The latest show of support -- an express car wash.

Any other day, a wash at Water Works would cost up to 14 dollars.

But not this weekend for essential workers.

"It's not only the healthcare workers, but it's the truckers and the electricians, and the military, and the police officers, and the grub hub delivery people and the fast food people," said Jim Spinato, owner of Water Works. "Everybody that has kept us going for the last month. We just wanted to give a little something back to the community."

They've been closed for about a month since the stay-at-home order. These "free" washes cost him, of course, but as one of the oldest car washes in town, he's got his finances straight.

"It's cost us a lot of money, but we've been here forty years and we can handle it," said Spinato.

"It's fantastic man, when the community comes out and they're willing to to come out and help people even if they just want their car washed," said Dakarai Cooper, a member of the U.S. military. " Little things, they really matter."

It's these little acts of service that make Spinato happy to open up again.

"Makes me feel great you know," he said. "We want our workers to be back working and they want to be working as well. So it's a win-win for everybody."
