CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A late night house fire called firefighters to the 1100 block of Park Avenue Saturday.

Around 11:30 p.m., fire crews arrived to find a two-story home with flames billowing out of the second floor. Crews called the fire 'large' and its conditions 'extreme,' saying that firefighters were unable to enter the building and had to fight it from outside.

"The fire was difficult to bring under control due to its type of construction which created a great deal of concealed spaces with limited access," said Lt. Roberts with Canon City Area Fire Protection District in a Facebook post.

Crews finally brought the blaze under control just after 2 a.m. Roberts said there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. Unfortunately, there were family pets that are unaccounted for at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
