Surveillance video shows suspect shot by Colorado Springs police
As the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the fatal officer-involved shooting of a 19-year-old man in Colorado Springs, new surveillance video is giving us a look at when De’Von Bailey was shot.
Bailey's death hasn't sat well with many people and led to protests and a brief riot in downtown Colorado Springs. Police say Bailey is the suspect of an armed robbery, and that's why police encountered him.
On Wednesday, NewsChannel 13 was able to get a copy of a neighbor's surveillance video from last Saturday showing the tail end of the shooting.
When watching the video, you can see Bailey run into the frame before dropping to the ground. Police then approach him and appear to put him in cuffs. Seconds later, they start performing life-saving measures.
The lady who gave us the video did not want to be identified, but she says she witnessed the ending of it and described what she saw and heard.
“I heard the gentleman that was laying on the ground say, 'You didn’t have to do that.' And then the police officer said, 'But you ran.' Then I saw him turn over, cuff him and then turn him back over. That’s when the officer said I need a med bag or a med pack,” said the witness.
She also said she heard multiple gunshots, “I thought I heard five and I know my husband said he heard seven. But I can only tell you what I heard.”
And just a minute before this unfolded, in the surveillance video you can see kids walking from the park, something that this witness was very concerned about.
“So yeah, there are kids up here at any given time. There are about 20 kids in the park.”
This case is still very much under investigation, and we will keep you updated.
