The School Buzz: D49 cafeteria manager named best in region

Kathleen Schneider serves her students in ways few schools could only dream of. She runs the cafeteria as the nutrition services manager at Vista Ridge High School. And she's been named the best in the entire region.

Schneider has recently been named the Mountain Plains Region 'Manager of the Year' by the School Nutrition Association. The SNA said, "Kathleen fosters a positive work environment by prioritizing the well-being of students and the professional growth of her kitchen staff."

The award is given to cafeteria managers who excel in providing high quality and nutritious meals all year long. Schneider is known for her attention to detail as well, including food presentation and education in healthy food choices. However, her work doesn't stop with lunch.

Schneider works with the school's transition program, helping special needs students learn life skills for post-graduation; one project she leads is the program's coffee-cart business.
