The School Buzz: Challenger 8th grader best at chess in state, impresses at nationals
A Colorado Springs 8th grader has been turning heads after her impressive chess wins.
Tanya Prabhu is making a name for herself across the country after taking home 1st place in the 7 through 12 division at the Colorado All Girls Scholastic Chess Championship recently. She scored a perfect five out of five. But, in April, Tanya, who goes to Challenger Middle School, also placed in the top 15 at the All Girls Chess Nationals tournament in the U-14 category, a tournament that has more than 450 competitors.
Tanya said, “Chess is not about winning, but it’s also about having fun and enjoying the game. Anytime you lose you should always take it as a learning experience to improve.”
The 8th grader hopes to start her own chess club to teach others the game.
