Investigation into burglary turned deadly shooting in Cimmaron Hills neighborhood

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- An investigation is underway into a shooting that left one man dead early Monday morning.

Just before 1:45 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call about a burglary in progress in the 800 block of Hathaway Dr., located in the Cimmaron Hills area.

At the scene, the EPCSO said deputies heard shots fired in the immediate area. They then found a man with at least one gunshot wound.

According to the sheriff's office, he was taken to a hospital for treatment but died from his injuries.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office will release his identity.

The EPCSO said this is still an investigation. No word on any suspects or suspect at this time.
