Fatal crash closes Highway 83 near Black Forest
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Highway 83 north of Colorado Springs was shut down around noon Tuesday due to a serious crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. just north of North Gate Boulevard, CDOT reported. Three cars were reported to be involved in the crash.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the driver of a red jeep was traveling southbound on Highway 83 when the driver veered into oncoming traffic going northbound.
The Jeep struck one grey pick up truck, and then another white pickup truck. According to Colorado State Patrol, the driver of the red jeep was killed in the crash. The driver of the white truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the grey truck was reported to be uninjured.
It's not yet clear what led to the crash. "We're not sure what made the vehicle veer on to the oncoming lane. We don't know yet," Sergeant Rick Hoffmann said.
