Air Force Academy cadet killed in plane crash in Texas

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Air Force Academy announced Friday that a cadet enrolled at the academy has died in a single-engine plane crash that happened Thursday in Texas.

Friday night the U.S. Air Force Academy confirmed the identity of the cadet who died as C2C Nick Duran.

The USAFA Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Clark released the following statement:

On June 24, we lost one of our own. C2C Nick Duran died as a result of a single-engine plane crash while he was home in Texas on leave. The impact of losing Nick has been felt throughout our Academy. He was our brother — a friend, teammate, and classmate — and will always be a part of USAFA. I am so proud of how our cadets have leaned on each other and honored Nick’s life.

While words cannot lessen the loss felt by his family, we want to send our heartfelt condolences to Nick’s family and friends — you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Further details about the crash itself weren't given, but the Academy said the incident is under investigation.

Our ABC affiliate in Dallas, WFAA, reported that a plane crashed Thursday evening near Cleburne. Duran and another person yet to be identified were reported killed in the crash.
