I-70 closed in western Colorado because of new wildfire

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A portion of Interstate 70 remains closed in western Colorado because of a wildfire that broke out along the highway Monday.
Drivers headed across the state must take long detours through the mountains to get around the closure near Glenwood Springs.
The U.S. Forest Service says firefighters initially found large active flames in the highway’s median before the fire ran up the north-facing slope.
The fire grew to about 2 square miles by nightfall. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Another wildfire burning near Grand Junction since July 31 has forced the evacuation of some residents.
