COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Police were alerted to a reported kidnapping late Saturday by the victim, who called police from the trunk of his alleged kidnapper's car.

At 11:24 p.m. police responded to the 600 block of S. Hancock Avenue, which is where the victim said the kidnapping had taken place, according to the police report.

The victim, an adult male, called CSPD from his cell phone and said that he had been assaulted by multiple suspects before being thrown into the trunk of a car.

The car was in motion while the victim was on the phone, according to police. The victim stayed on the phone with police and gave them updates to his locations.

Officers ultimately located the suspect vehicle in the area of 2100 Pheasant Place.

As officers approached the vehicle, they heard a gunshot from inside the car, police said. Officers found an adult male suspect inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was transported to a hospital but died from his injuries, police said.

The victim was found inside of the car's trunk and taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. Police say he will be released.

Detectives with the Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation.
