Manitou Springs using parking revenues to buy protective equipment for local businesses
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- With business starting to return next week in Colorado, so are the parking fees in Manitou Springs -- but the small mountain town has a plan that might curb the complaints.
Manitou announced Tuesday that all revenues from on-street parking and city-owned lots will be donated for COVID-19 protection equipment for Manitou Springs businesses. The fees will return on May 4.
With the summer approaching, the town is expecting an influx of tourists and businesses are having to change how they operate. Social distancing is still important, but city public information officer Alex Trefry says the city will help businesses offer protection to their customers.
The parking kiosks across the town will still be open, but people are encouraged to use the Park Mobile app instead.
The announcement will be made official at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
