COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – Students and their families from the The Barbara Ellis Studio of Dance in Colorado Springs showed their support and love for long-time studio owner, and dance teacher, Barbara Ellis on Saturday afternoon.

84-year-old Ellis is celebrating her 60th year of teaching dance this year.  With the current coronavirus restrictions, it's uncertain if the studio's annual June recital at the Pikes Peak Center will be taking place.

The studio has been closed, and Barb and her husband, Paul, have been staying at home during this time.

Studio members decided to put on their BESD dance gear, make decorations and signs, and parade through Ellis’ neighborhood.

Event organizers said it was a way to show the Ellises how they are loved and missed during this special 60th anniversary year.

According to event organizer Jessica Sharrow, the Barbara Ellis Studio of Dance was one of the first dance studios in the Colorado Springs area. It’s located off of Academy Blvd. on York street.

The dance studio teaches Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Modern and Musical Theater. Sharrow said in some families, there are up to three generations of dancers that are being taught in the studio.
