UPDATE: CSFD investigation cause of grass fire in Colorado Springs Neighborhood
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a grass fire near Star Ranch Road and Kincaid Court.
"I walked outside. I smelled barbecue. We came to the back, on the deck, and saw the flames," Naomi McAdoo had a clear view of the flames from her back deck. She tells KRDO 13 that after spotting the blaze she called her family while her fiancee called 911.
The smoke could be seen from Highway 115 prompting a lot of calls to the fire department.
"We have a newborn baby. We got him into the car and all the dogs and went up the street, as far as we could," McAdoo told KRDO 13.
The fire is now extinguished, but it wasn't easy. Colorado Springs FD Lieutenant Brian Myers said the fire's precarious location provided challenges for the fire crews.
Now the focus is on the cause. Initial reports from CSFD say the fire started on hillside trails behind homes in the Southern Colorado Springs neighborhood.
