Man who allegedly faked medical emergency in pet store theft caught on camera in Centennial sentenced to prison
ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man who helped distract pet store employees while another man stole two English Bulldog puppies was sentenced to two years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
According to the 18th Judicial District Attorney's (DA) Office, 39-year-old Timothy Davis pled guilty to conspiracy to commit theft for his part in the viral February 2025 incident that was caught on security footage. The DA's office says Davis will serve one year of parole after his sentence.

The charges stem from an incident at the Perfect Pets store at 6840 S. University Blvd. in Centennial. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), Davis and his accomplice, Jonathan Muniz, entered the store separately. Davis began asking the employees about two English Bulldogs and their prices, according to officials.

That is when employees told him he needed a photo ID, and shortly after he fell to the ground and appeared to be suffering from a medical emergency. While employees were helping Davis, Muniz removed the lid from the puppy enclosure, grabbed two dogs and tried to run from the store, security footage shows.
Video footage shows an employee try to tackle Muniz, and he then drops one of the puppies. At the time, ACSO said both men were able to escape the store with a third suspect driving.
The DA's office says an investigation showed Davis created the diversion so the puppies, which were valued at more than $4,000 each, could be stolen. They say both puppies were eventually found and returned.

Muniz was convicted in September of 2025 for his part in the crime. ACSO said he had a three-day trial that ended with a jury finding him guilty of robbery, felony theft, conspiracy to commit felony theft and third-degree assault.
Muniz was sentenced to eight years in prison in February. Officials say those years will run consecutively to an Adams County case where he was sentenced to 12 years.

"This wasn't a spontaneous act," Senior Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Jochum said in a press release. "It was a coordinated theft that relied on distracting employees who believed they were helping someone experiencing a medical emergency. Mr. Davis played an important role in carrying out that plan, and today he was held accountable for his actions.
