CSPD makes arrest in burglary investigation on the Colorado College campus

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says it has arrested the suspect in an alleged burglary on the Colorado College Campus.

CSPD asked for help in locating 31-year-old Jesse Lupo on Wednesday, September 16. At the time, CSPD said Lupo, a registered sex offender, was the suspect in a September 1 burglary on the Colorado College campus. On September 14, CSPD says they were notified that Lupo had gained access to another building on campus.

CSPD says detectives from its Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Unit and Registered Sex Offender Unit took over the investigation at that point. Detectives developed probable cause and issued an arrest warrant for Lupo.

On Wednesday, CSPD says its Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force (VOFTF) was asked to assist in apprehending Lupo. On Thursday, September 17, detectives say their investigation led them to Lupo's residence in the zero block of North Walnut Street. VOFTF detectives say they, along with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Impact Team, CSPD's K9 team and a drone from the Real Time Crime Center, also responded.

CSPD says its lead VOFTF detective contacted several of Lupo's associates, and one was able to convince Lupo to leave his house. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, according to CSPD.

The investigation is open and ongoing, and anyone with information on Lupo's alleged activities or other incidents possibly involving him, are asked to contact CSPD.

When CSPD first asked for help locating Lupo, they said that, based on the investigation, they have reason to believe there may be additional victims or witnesses who have not contacted law enforcement. CSPD is asking anyone with information to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000.
