Man arrested during traffic stop in El Paso County for meth possession

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A man who was already out on bond in a separate drug case was arrested again after deputies say they found methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, deputies were patrolling the area of Almont Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on June 16 when they spotted 53-year-old Craig Nothaus getting into a vehicle and driving away.

Deputies said they recognized Nothaus from a recent encounter and knew he did not have a valid driver's license, so they initiated a traffic stop.

During the stop, deputies learned Nothaus was out on bond following a May 6 arrest in which he was accused of possessing 24 grams of methamphetamine.

K9 Dex was called to the scene to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle. According to the Sheriff's Office, the K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. Deputies searched the vehicle and said they found approximately 6.4 grams of methamphetamine.

Nothaus was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and driving under restraint. The Sheriff's Office said he was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
