Absolutely Colorado: Local organization hosts school supplies fundraiser for foster youth

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A local group came together to provide school supplies for local students before the start of a new school year.

Kids Crossing is a child placement agency that works to put foster kids into safe homes. The group hosted a school supplies drive to prepare some of their foster youth for back to school season.

"It's important for us that our families and those kids feel like we have got their backs and we are meeting the needs that they have," Hillary Bridges, the assistant executive director of Kids Crossing said.

The group provided students with backpacks stuffed with pens, pencils, rulers, calculators, paper and other necessary items to start the school year off right.

"It sets the kids up for success in going to school with brand new backpacks," Tara Wehner, a foster parent with Kids Crossing, said. "A lot of kids come with nothing and to have supplies of their own and brand new school supplies and brand new backpacks really helps them walking into school and being confident with what they have."
