Colorado Springs man shares video after claiming dog was stolen from his backyard
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - A Colorado Springs man has shared surveillance video that he says captures his dog being stolen from his backyard.
In the video, you can see the man opening a gate and entering the yard on Wednesday, July 22, around 4 p.m. Paul Torrez's dog, Blanco, can be seen greeting the man before the man appears to take the dog's collar off.
The man then looks around before eventually picking up Blanco and opening the gate, leaving the area with the dog in his hands.
Paul Torrez says he knew something was wrong when his 3-year-old fur baby, Blanco, didn't respond to his calls when he arrived home for the day.
Torrez says he initially believed one of his sons might have been visiting Blanco when he first saw the video. He then realized it was a stranger and expressed shock at the brazen nature of the dognapping.
“And it was in broad daylight. That's the other crazy thing. Like, like nothing. Just walked in there, took the dog and vamanos, you know, like, wow, man. That's crazy,” Torrez said.
He noted that the video indicated Blanco's reluctance to go with the man.
“You can tell from the video when the guy grabbed him, he didn't want to go,” Torrez said.
Blanco is described by Torrez as his companion, as he lives alone. An untouched bowl of food, which would typically be empty, remains in the home.
“I live here by myself and he's my companion, you know, he's my buddy,” He said. “I get it. You know, people have rough times, but that doesn't mean, you know, you have to make other people suffer.”
The individual's face was blurred in the video footage due to the absence of criminal charges filed at this time.
Anyone who sees Blanco is encouraged to call the Colorado Springs Police Department, as the dog is microchipped.
