Fire sparks in Fountain Mesa Park, bystanders help put out the flames, according to FFD

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) - A brush fire ignited on Wednesday near Fountain Mesa Park, just east of Mesa Ridge High School, prompting a rapid response from the Fountain Fire Department (FFD).

The blaze, which measured approximately 50 feet wide and between 200 and 300 feet long, was brought under control within an hour of the initial 5 p.m. call, with no injuries reported, according to the FFD.

The rapid containment of the fire occurred during hot and dry conditions, a situation that had other nearby communities on high fire alert. The initial response involved both first responders and local bystanders, whose assistance was noted as crucial.

“Yeah, it was a huge help for us. It definitely slowed it. Coming up to the ridge right here, as you can see behind me. Having those people here definitely slow that spread and prevent it from jumping over this trail into these houses right next to us,” Brayden Stewart, the Fountain Fire Battalion Chief, said.

A witness to the flames, William Barker, described the scene as overwhelming. “I mean, it was just really, like, overwhelming. I just didn't know if everybody was okay,” Barker stated.

Fire investigators were actively working at the scene to determine the exact cause of the brush fire.
