Two break-ins within 24 hours: thieves steal donations for food bank
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Colorado Springs Police are searching for a burglary suspect after a local business was broken into twice in 24 hours.
The owner, Jessica Patterson, shared video footage of a break-in at Root: Center for Yoga and Sacred Studies early Thursday morning.
You can see a man walk in through the back door, spot the camera, and take it.
But it didn't end there. The owner says just hours later that suspect breaks in through the front door, and this time with someone else.
Jessica Patterson has owned the business for over a decade, and she's spooked knowing someone would do this, not just once, but twice.
"There's fury, anger, especially that he returned. The entitlement to just take things. It strips away a sense of faith in your community, in your setting," says Jessica.
You can view the footage <a href="http://<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjessica.patterson822%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02HRz6kGwn1NAPoQu413T42zL65bKSrWd8Nqk7uG8CCh16bdSRRUDfzhAf5hLTY4AUl&show_text=true&width=500" width="500" height="454" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share">here.
Jessica says they took donations they collected for a food bank, money, and some products.
Still, Jessica and her team tell me they're seeing the silver lining.
What they hold close to their hearts was not touched-- an altar of the loved ones they've lost.
"We have students who were long-time members of our community who have died. We have their pictures here. We have so many special things on this altar that are so meaningful. If this space had been harmed in any way, I think we would be in a really different emotional state," says Patterson.
If you would like to support the business, they are accepting donations here.
If you recognize the man in the videos, contact Colorado Springs Police.
