COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), two people were found dead in a dorm room on the UCCS campus Friday morning.

CSPD said UCCS police gained access to the dorm room around 6 a.m. and found the deceased individuals, each with at least one gunshot wound. CSPD responded a short time later and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

CSPD said they are in the very early stages of the investigation and are still piecing together what happened. They don't believe there is an ongoing threat to the community and are investigating this as an isolated incident.

While the El Paso County Coroner will determine the official cause of death, CSPD said they are investigating the deaths as a homicide and this continues to be an active investigation.

CSPD said they will not be releasing any further information at this time about the circumstances of what happened. They are also working to inform the families of the deceased.

There were initial reports of an active shooter on campus Friday morning, but UCCS police quickly reported that that was not the case. Areas of campus were locked down but the lockdowns have been lifted. The campus is now closed for at least the remainder of the day.

Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade released the following statement on Twitter regarding the incident:

"We stand with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ students, staff and faculty impacted by this morning’s incident on the UCCS campus that resulted in the tragic loss of two lives. The university is a family, and it is also part of our Colorado Springs family. Together we mourn, and together we pray for peace and comfort in this dark time for the family and friends of the deceased. We thank the first responders and officers working on this investigation as they seek truth and justice. Let us find comfort in one another and the strength of the support system around us. UCCS offers 24/7 access to mental health resources to its students, a critical service to help navigate the difficult days and weeks to follow. Together, we are Colorado Springs."

A press confrence is expected to begin at 2. That can be watched above.
