The Colorado Springs Fire Department announcing new position to their ranks
COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Fire Department will be announcing a new deputy chief position to its ranks. The department currently has two deputy chiefs but they are adding a new chief position.
The current two chief positions oversee support services and operations. The deputy chief of operations oversees the majority of the department's 517 firefighters. They were also responsible for the entire emergency medical services and the division of community and public health but the new deputy chief position with now oversee those departments.
Currently, 80% percent of the calls the department responds to are medical-related. As the city continues to grow the fire department saw the need to add a deputy chief position to help spread out the workload at an administrative level.
They will convert one firefighter position to allow for the new addition. The Colorado Springs Fire Department is also announcing the replacement for the current deputy chief of support services who will be retiring in March.
