CSFD responds to 3 fires in 4 days caused by space heaters
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to a fully involved vehicle fire Thursday morning south of Downtown, on El Paso St.
According to CSFD, the fire was caused by a space heater that was too close to combustibles. The department said this is the third significant fire in the last four days they responded to that was caused by a space heater.
CSFD said it's extremely important to adhere to the following safety tips when using a space heater:
- Keep the heater at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
- Place the heater on a solid, flat surface.
- Make sure your heater has an auto shut-off to turn the heater off if it tips over.
- Plug the heater directly into the wall outlet. Never use an extension cord.
- Space heaters should be turned off and unplugged when you leave the room or go to bed.
