Several suspects in custody following early morning standoff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A standoff is now over at a Colorado Springs Motel.

KRDO13 learned from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) that the standoff was connected to overnight robberies. CSPD says that they believe at least one individual was tied to at least one of the overnight robberies.

Police say some of those suspects barricaded themselves inside a motel on North Nevada Avenue.

The scene is now cleared at The End of Trail Motel, but it was a pretty chaotic morning when police spent almost six hours in a standoff situation with multiple robbery suspects.

Two of those suspects surrendered after barricading themselves inside of a motel room here.

Police arrived at the motel around 4 a.m. after witnesses called the police.

The witness reported seeing a vehicle connected to four overnight robberies at motels and restaurants between 8 p.m. and midnight last night.

When police arrived, there were eight people inside of a motel room.

Five were arrested on unrelated charges and are still being questioned about the overnight robberies. Three were detained and released.

Around 9:45 a.m., the two suspects inside the motel room peacefully surrendered and exited the motel room.

That makes for a total of five suspects police are currently interviewing right now about those robberies.

"Initially, several people were taken into custody somewhere detained we had three people who were detained and released, three people were detained and then arrested on previous warrants not related to the overnight activity, but we do believe at this point that at least one of those people under arrest involved with the previous warrant is likely connected to at least one of the overnight robberies that we had," said Public Information Officer Ira Cronin.

At this time, it's unclear what was taken, but police say no one was hurt in the robberies.

CSPD says that this is an ongoing investigation.
