St. Charles Fire over 200 acres, entire San Isabel area under pre-evacuation orders
PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The Saint Charles Fire continues to burn in Pueblo County, causing concern for some residents and community members.
According to the Colorado Type 3 Incident Management Team, the fire was measured at 266 acres as of Tuesday morning and it is still zero percent contained.
On Monday, the fire was 159 acres. However, the Incident Management Team said the lack of humidity and warm air Monday night allowed for the fire to grow substantially.
According to the Custer County Sheriff's Office, the fire is located within Pueblo County about half of a mile from the Custer County line.
Pre-evacuation orders were issued Monday, Oct. 23 for the San Isabel area and the Aspen Acres, Simonson Meadows, and Terra J Neighborhoods. The pre-evacuation orders are still in place and residents in those areas are encouraged to pack a bag in case a formal evacuation is put in place.
The Incident Management Team said fire crews are continuing to fight the flames by aircraft with retardant and water. More crews are expected to arrive today from Washington, Oregon, California and Colorado to help with the response.
This is a developing story.
