Go Team Therapy Dogs train in southern Colorado
MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO)-- This weekend, 51 dogs and their humans trained at the Monument Fire Department with Go Team Dogs. The dogs that participated were alumni and potential members of Go Team Dogs.
Go Team Dogs is a Colorado Springs based organization that started in response to the Waldo Canyon fire. Two therapy dogs and their handlers visited displaced residents in hotels and evacuation centers. They also spent time with first responders. The dogs provided comfort and distraction to those dealing with the tragedy.
One of the original volunteers saw how much of an impact these furry companions made and started Go Team Dogs.
So far over 1,000 teams have gone through the training program. There are teams globally including Italy and Spain.
Anyone can register for a training class as long as the dog can pass certain tests prior to the classes.
