Colorado Springs City Council approves proposal for energy price rate decrease
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Colorado Springs City Council has approved the Colorado Springs Utilities’ (Springs Utilities) proposal for an energy rate decrease this Tuesday, June 27.
Since approved, this is now the third energy rate decrease since November 2022, with the last being in March 2023.
The proposal for natural gas and electric rate decreases stemmed from lower demand and greater natural gas supply nationwide.
Springs Utilities state the new rates will be in effect Saturday, July 1.
They will reduce the average four-service residential customer bill by $7.68/month.
Compared to last summer, Springs Utilities states residential customers will pay 15% less for electricity and 44% less for natural gas on a typical monthly bill.
Aside from the approved proposal, here are some additional tips Springs Utilities are offering to help customers manage costs this summer:
- Set the thermostat to 78 degrees when home, or higher when away.
- Change air-conditioning filters monthly and get an annual check-up.
- Use a portable fan or install ceiling fans.
- Keep window coverings closed during the day to block direct sunlight.
