Child safe after kidnapping Wednesday in Colorado Springs

CSPD

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a "rolling disturbance" in the area of E. Fountain Blvd. and Circle Dr.

A male suspect fled from responding officers with a child in his vehicle.

CSPD said officers discovered existing protection orders that prevented the male suspect from having contact with the child and the mother of the child. Due to flight and safety concerns, the officers initially "backed off" from pursuing the suspect.

Later, the officers were able to determine the suspect had left his vehicle and was on foot in the area of San Miguel St. and Hancock Ave. He was then taken into custody without incident, according to CSPD.

The child was also located with the suspect and returned to the mother unharmed.

CSPD said 32-year-old Grant Thomas was arrested on charges of kidnapping, felony eluding, child abuse, and violation of a protection order.
