Drive across the Royal Gorge during the Bridge of Lights event

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is preparing to welcome guests to the Royal Gorge Bridge of Lights event.

The unique holiday event will give guests the opportunity to drive across the Royal Gorge Bridge, 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River, amidst thousands of twinkling lights.

Driving across the bridge is not regularly offered, outside of pre-arranged car club groups. The event will be limited to vehicles with up to 8 passenger seating. Large vans, trollies, party buses, trailers, and dualies are not permitted. Guests must also stay in their vehicles throughout the experience.

The park is encouraging guests to pre-purchase their tickets by offering a $5 discount on website purchases. Season Pass holders will receive an additional $5 discount via a special code. The price for the event is $40/car if purchased at the gate on arrival. The website price is $35/car.

During the event, the park will showcase thousands of lights leading to and from the bridge. Holiday music will also be playing on the park-wide sound system.

The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 pm November 18-27, December 1-4, 8-11, and 15-31 with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. These days, the bridge and park will still be open during regular peak hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
