Driver arrested for DUI after hitting parked cars, a district security officer, and a utility box

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- An investigation is underway after a driver crashed into multiple vehicles in a Colorado Springs school parking lot and injured a district security officer.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), a driver hit parked cars and a security officer at the New Summit Charter School Monday morning. Police said the driver fled the scene but ended up crashing into a utility box on Union Jack Way.
CSPD said the security officer was taken to a hospital. The driver was also taken to a hospital and later arrested for a DUI. Police said the crash into the utility box resulted in eight houses without power.
New Summit Charter School (NSCS) sent a message to families notifying them of the crash, which happened during the school's carpool time.
According to officials with NSCS, they're working internally with staff and students who witnessed the incident from their classroom and were outside at the time. Counselors are available for support.
