COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs has a handful of new residents thanks to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Monday, CPW stocked Wolf Lake with adult rainbow trout that spent the last four to five years as brood stock for spawning at a hatchery in Glenwood Springs.
Aquatic biologist Cory Noble with CPW said these fish were 20 inches long, roughly twice as long as fish normally stocked into Colorado ponds.
Each year, CPW said the department's hatcheries team stocks 90 million fish into Colorado's 2,000 lakes, 800 reservoirs, and 9,500 miles of streams. The fish are traditionally distributed by hand, through trucks, and even dropped by planes.
The fish distributed at Wolf Lake join bluegill, largemouth bass, crappie, and sunfish previously put into the lake by CPW.
