Parks and wildlife says Colorado is in for a longer ‘leaf peeping’ season this year
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- As the temperatures drop and the season of fall begins, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is giving Coloradans some advice — now is the time to go "leaf peeping."
It's a funny term for a simple activity, which many have done even if they've never heard it called by that name.
"The weather starts changing, days get shorter, and the leaves start changing color," said Joey Livingston with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. "It's kind of a last hoorah to go hiking or even just drive around and see some beautiful scenery."
Leaf peeping is the act of looking for leaves that are changing colors. And while it's a biological event that happens every year, there are specific places that are best to catch those colors.
The good news for Coloradans that haven't gotten around to hopping in the car to see those sights, is that the start of the 2022 leaf peeping season was delayed due to warmer temperatures.
"We had kind of a late color change this year," said Livingston. "There's still some great opportunities to get out there a little bit later than usual and see some leaf peeping."
