CSPD officer-involved shooting from March ruled justified

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office for Colorado has completed its review of an officer-involved shooting, involving a Colorado Springs police officer, that occurred on March 7, 2022, was justified.

The incident occurred on the morning of March 7 when Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers responded to N. Circle Dr. in an attempt to locate a suspect wanted out of Mississippi for paralyzing a man.

When officers attempted to contact the man, later identified as 39-year-old James Gregory, he fired a gun at them. Officers returned fire, but missed, as Gregory fled the scene. A short time later he was contacted again. This time, officers fired as Gregory attempted to draw his firearm and he was hit, at least once.

Gregory died at the scene.
