Telehealth business looks to Colorado moms with free breastfeeding and baby feeding support

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Through Medicaid, new mothers can now depend on some medical support through SimpliFed, a service that offers on-demand baby feeding and lactation support.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than 22,000 births in Colorado are covered by Medicaid every year. Andrea Ippolito, the CEO and founder of SimpliFed, said they encourage families covered in Medicaid to take advantage of the free baby feeding system.

SimpliFed works to help low-income families in Colorado prepare for and navigate feeding concerns from pregnancy through weaning at little to no cost - during the shortage they worked with families to provide alternatives.

"If you are fully formula feeding, getting access to the right formula, say your baby has tummy issues, our baby feeding experts would work with you to help understand your options, especially since many special formulas were not available so helping to troubleshoot any questions with that," said Ippolito.

Ippolito said she believes there need to be stronger systems in place to help struggling families through their baby-feeding journeys,

"We need stronger, more resilient baby feeding systems in the United States," said Ippolito. "Right now the FDA needs to modernize and they need resources to modernize," added Ippolito.

Colorado's Medicaid beneficiaries also have access to this support system now and can make free telehealth appointments for any baby feeding support they might need.

Patients can make virtual appointments or get access to care on-demand 24/7 or within minutes, services are available in four languages including English and Spanish.
