Colorado Springs Firefighter accused of stealing $200k has been placed on leave without pay
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs Firefighter accused of stealing almost $200,000 through his construction company has now been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Jared Whiteman turned himself in at the El Paso County Jail in June where he was booked for Theft ($100k-$Million), a class 3 felony.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KRDO, Whiteman and his wife were accused of stealing from numerous families.
Thursday, the Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed he was on leave without pay. According to CSFD, Whiteman was hired by the department on March 3, 2017. He currently holds the rank of Firefighter 1st Class.
In a press release, the CSFD said, "As this is an ongoing case, there will be no further comment at this time from the CSFD."
