Pueblo Police arrested a man suspected of stealing a car
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) has arrested a man suspected of stealing a car and being in possession of a firearm as a previous offender.
PPD officers located a silver Chevrolet Malibu with no rear bumper or license plate attached traveling southbound in the 1200 block of Prairie Avenue. They believed that this matched the description of a car that was reported stolen.
The vehicle stopped in the 1600 block of S. Prairie Ave. When officers attempted to stop the car, the suspect drove away at a high rate of speed. The suspect struck a parking lot curb in the 2900 block of W. Northern Ave disabling the car.
PPD says that three occupants ran northwest from the location of the vehicle. The front seat passenger was apprehended after running into the Safeway bathroom. The suspect was identified as, 18-year-old, Alonso Sanchez.
Evidence was located within the Safeway bathroom that suggested Sanchez attempted to shed clothing in order to disguise himself from officers, according to PPD.
Officers found a handgun in the parking lot. Witness saw one of the male suspects throw the .357 Magnum on the ground after fleeing the stolen vehicle. PPD says that the firearm was stolen.
Sanchez was booked into Pueblo County Jail on Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender (POWPO), 1st Degree Criminal Trespass, and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (scheduled II controlled substance).
PPD is expecting additional charges in this incident.
