Colorado Water Conservation Board approves $17 million for Colorado Water Plan
DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- During its bi-monthly meeting Wednesday, the Colorado Water Conservation Board unanimously approved Governor Jared Polis' request for $17 million to "kick-start local-level implementation of the recently updated Colorado Water Plan."
The $17 million is on top of an additional $3 million that was previously authorized to the Water Supply Reserve Fund.
According to the Governor's Office, the recommendation to significantly increase the total amount of funding for basinwide and local water projects comes from the severance tax revenue.
The money will be used for drought resilience and aging water infrastructure projects.
"In Colorado, water is life and we are excited to make this important investment in our water future. Colorado’s Water Plan sets a vision for vibrant communities, successful farming and ranching, thriving watersheds, and climate resilient planning. Prolonged drought and aging water infrastructure are major barriers to achieving that vision, particularly as Coloradans face a future with more people sharing less water," Gov. Polis said.
