Road closures at Fontanero St., Chestnut streets throughout the week; beginning Monday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Beginning Monday, full temporary road closures are scheduled at the intersection of Fontanero Street and Chestnut streets. The closures will allow crews to work on the Centennial Boulevard Extension Project.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, the intersection will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday through 5 p.m. on Friday.
The roadway North to Fillmore Street and South to Uintah Street will be open to traffic as an alternative route. Drivers may also use Recreation Way on the East side of Interstate 25.
All bicyclists and pedestrians can follow construction fencing if they're using the Mesa Springs Greenway Trail at the northwest and southwest corners. (Orange lines indicated on the map below.) To gain access back onto the trail, you can cross Fontanero Streets at the crosswalks. (Red dots indicated on the map below.)

The $20 million extension of Centennial Boulevard is a project 30 years in the making. It's all to address travel demand from the Garden of the Gods corridor to the downtown area.
The new roadway will improve transportation connections, drainage, and mobility options to the West side neighborhoods. New street lighting, pedestrian activated signal crossing to the Open Space, and a traffic light at Chestnut Street and at Interstate 25 Fontanero interchange.
The entire project is expected to end by Fall of 2023.
