The Artist and his field

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Collin Tyzinski is the head groundskeeper for the Rocky Mountain Vibes. When you go to a game, he's the guy who gets the field ready.

“I’ve always been a fan of sports," Tyzinski says. "This is the closest thing I can get to being part of a team, and being close to sports.”

Nine years ago, Tyzinski took a summer job doing ground work in Erie, Pennsylvania. As it turns out, he’s really good at it, and never stopped. He’s got an art degree, and he puts it to use.

"To me, this is like my canvas," he says, motioning to the field. "You start from scratch, and at the end of the day, you produce a field for people to play on. Whether it’s aesthetically for the fans to look at, or a safe playing surface for the players.”

On days where rain is a factor, Tyzinski plays the role of amateur meteorologist. He constantly checks for weather updates.

“This job, it takes a lot of toll on you, physically and emotionally," Tyzinski says. "The only thing you really can’t control is mother nature, and that’s the one thing you have to have on your side.”

As demanding as the job is, Tyzinski loves it. His passion for his craft shines through his work.

"Not many people can say this is your office. My office is a ballpark. So, it’s pretty cool.”
