Fire continues burning at Fort Carson, multiple crews battling flames

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, a spokesperson with Fort Carson provided an update on a fire burning on the base.

According to officials, Fort Carson Fire and Emergency Personnel and several local fire fighting agencies continue to battle the wildland fire that began burning Thursday. Officials say the fire began burning on an installation training range Thursday.

As of 4 p.m., the fire had burned 1,300 acres. No buildings or personnel are threatened at this time.

Officials say smoke is visible throughout that area, especially along Highway 115.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire departments and external agencies who are assisting include Colorado Springs, Stratmoor Hills, Hanover, Cheyenne Mountain, El Paso County, and Colorado Springs Utilities.
