Pueblo Mesa Drive-In set to open in May under new owners
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo is home to one of the country's oldest standing drive-in theaters. Wednesday, KRDO spoke with the new owners as they get ready to open the gates for the 2022 summer season.
The Mesa Drive-In has been the Steel City since 1951. Back in October, the previous owners put the venue up for sale and the community worried if it would stay a drive-in or not.
In March, Marcella and Jon Snyder introduced themselves through Facebook as the new owners. Marcella said the former owners posted in an online forum that it was for sale and they couldn't pass it up.
"We were like oh let's go take a look at it because it is one of the oldest remaining drive-ins in the US. It was just kind of a really cool old building and drive-in and the community here seemed to be really supportive. We came out and fell in love and decided to take that plunge and buy the Mesa," said Snyder.
According to Marcella, the pair have a lot of experience in the industry and run a theater in Indiana.
Right now, the Mesa Drive-In is undergoing some renovations. The Snyders are addressing issues like plumbing and electricity and bringing the building up to code.
They're also working on being able to accept credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
The new owners told KRDO they're shooting for a May 6 opening with plans of showing the latest addition to the Marvel Universe, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse Madness. However, Snyder says with the renovations, the opening day could be pushed back.
