El Paso County Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez Jr. runs for Mayor of Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Current El Paso County Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez Jr. has entered the race for Mayor of Colorado Springs and formally kicked off his campaign Wednesday evening.
Gonzalez, an Air Force Academy graduate and retired intelligence officer (Lt Colonel), is the current commissioner representing District 4.
The latest mayoral candidate says his advocacy for families and small businesses and his efforts as a commissioner to focus on the local economy is what makes him the best candidate to lead Colorado Springs.
Gonzalez says he plans to address three main concerns during his run for mayor:
- Reforming the public safety department
- Focusing more on city infrastructure
- Ending city tax increases.
Gonzalez says he'll prioritize properly funded essential services while stopping the recent trend of local tax increases. As mayor, Gonzalez says he'll submit a budget that effectively utilizes those additional funds to improve roads, strengthen public safety, and improve our parks maintenance efforts, without raising taxes.
“With rising inflation and ongoing spikes in utility bills and housing costs, leaders should be looking at making government more efficient, not adding to the burden of taxpayers and families. I will be there for our residents and businesses,” said Gonzalez.
Before becoming a local representative, Gonzalez was a science teacher at Carmel Middle School and remains a Sunday school teacher at his church, and an occasional guest speaker and substitute in Harrison School District Two.
“I look forward to continuing my dedicated service to our region and city, and ask for residents’ support as we work together in keeping Colorado Springs the city our families desire to live, work and play,” said Gonzalez.
