Holiday travel not as hectic as expected at COS airport

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Even though holiday air travel was expected to bog down the airports all over the state, the Colorado Springs Airport is seeing smooth sailing on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Wednesday at the COS airport saw TSA lines moving along without delays or cancelations of flights.

Airport public communications specialist Dana Schield said that air travel is expected to be up almost 30% this week from the same time last year.

The good news for travelers is the airport is offering $4 per day long-term parking during the Thanksgiving travel season, ending on Nov. 29.

“Obviously it's a great way to save some funds over the holidays which everyone loves, but it’s also our way of saying thank you to those who fly COS," Schield said.

Despite things moving quicker than expected, airport officials still ask travelers to arrive an hour and a half before their scheduled departure time and review TSA guidelines to double-check what is allowed on the plane.
