4-year-old dies in house fire in northern Pueblo neighborhood
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Fire Department confirmed Wednesday an overnight fire was fatal, killing one four-year-old boy.
According to the department, the house fire happened in the University Park neighborhood.
When firefighters arrived on scene, multiple bystanders were entering the home to try and save the family inside.
"When we got there we encountered a house that was fully engulfed in flames." Pueblo Fire spokesperson Woody Percival said. "Almost the entire home was showing smoke and flames."
According to a Gofundme account, the victims were identified as the Magoon family.
Firefighters entered the home and attempted to save the Magoon family inside. They were able to rescue both parents and their two daughter.
"The family lost their 4-year-old son to the fire, and the two kids and her husband are intubated after a Flight For Life to Denver for treatment," the Gofundme says.
According to Pueblo Fire, the other three family members were flown to Denver and are currently in the hospital recovering from their injuries.
Thursday morning, multiple emotional citizens approached the home to pay their respects. One man put a "God bless this family" sign on the front lawn.
"Just as it evokes emotion in us, the community here is affected by it as well, even if they didn't know the victims or the family," Percival said.
The preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire ended Wednesday. There were multiple agencies involved in the investigation.
"We were able to call it undetermined. It does appear to be accidental. We don't believe any foul play is involved," Percival said.
Pueblo Fire says they will continue to work with other agencies and state officials in the investigation. Although, the main part of the investigation is complete.
