‘Play Ball Park’ brings fans and MLB stars together in Denver
DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) -- It was a once-in-a-lifetime event for many baseball fans who visited 'Play Ball Park' in Denver, getting autographs from Hall of Famers and tips from some of the best in the game.
Even former Rockies pitcher Pedro Astacio, who played with the team from 1997-2001 and held the record for the most career strikeouts in the organization for nearly 10 years, was at the Colorado Convention Center Monday to see the excitement from the fans.
"I'm here to see the fans, there is a lot of people who do not have the opportunity to see this up close and I am happy to give them the opportunity," Astacio.
Also in attendance Monday was MLB Hall of Famer and nine-time All-Star Vladimir Guerrero, whose son, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is about to be in his first All-Star game. For him, this moment is seeing things come full circle.
"You know, this is as if it were my first All-Star game, to see my son -- I want to tell the fans that I feel happy to see my son grow and see him now as a superstar," said Guerrero.
Besides taking pictures with the stars and getting autographs, fans got to envision themselves as broadcasters and also learn about the pioneers of the sport of baseball.
The festivities continue Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. Most tickets are reserved, but if you check online Tuesday morning you might get lucky. You can find that information for tickets here.
