Pueblo Police add new 911 text software for callers
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- On July 1, Pueblo Police installed a new communication software called SPIDR Tech for $66,000 dollars. The system will send a text to 911 callers about their potential response times, or an update to any police report.
“It sends texts to people that call us. It lets them know that their call has been entered into our CAD system. When I say CAD, it is our computer-aided dispatch system," Sergeant Franklyn Ortega said.
People that call 911 in Pueblo will be added to a queue, and when police are in route, the caller will be notified.
For some call types, SPIDR tech will not be used. Calls regarding domestic issues, sexual assaults or injuries to a child will not be added to the queue, and those callers will not receive text messaging from Pueblo PD.
"We will not make those calls to avoid making the situation worse than it already is," Ortega said.
Pueblo residents cannot respond back to Pueblo PD after receiving a text. However, they can provide feedback on their experience with the new system by giving their satisfaction level after they have responded to the 911 call.
With the new software system installed last week, police say they should know by August 1st whether the SPIDR tech has helped their department.
